Plan, Build And Manage A Linux Network

A practical five day course scheduled for 2005 (dates to be announced).
Location: Western Sydney - Close to all transport.

Designed for those seeking a cheap but powerful solution for school networks. Each attendee will design, build and configure a standards compliant, Linux server capable of long-term, robust, maintenance free operation.

The course provides free software and all the training you need to plan, build and manage school Intranet\Internet\network solution, suitable for Mac and/or Intel PC based workstations.

The course is suitable for Linux beginners and for those with some Linux experience looking to consolidate and enhance existing skills. Preference will be given to practical folks wanting to apply this solution within their own school (ideal for computer co-ordinators).

The solution is compatible with the DET ISDN Intranet connection service. The services can be integrated with any curriculum server (including NT and Netware) and will even happily share the same network cable as your new OASIS Library\Admin server!

The aim is to provide attendees with understanding of Linux network tehnologies in a practical, supportive environment. Each attendee will build, configure and manage a RedHat Linux Internet caching proxy server suitable for long term, reliable school use.

Approximately 60% of time is spent in hands-on activities. The emphasis is on understanding how to implement, manage and deliver services to end-users, rather than technical intricacies of the operating system and\or hardware itself.

Certification:On the final day, students may choose to attempt a practical examination for SAAS Certified Linux Administrator (SCLA) certification.

The full five day course includes:

All software will be supplied at no extra cost, including a copy of GNU\RedHat Linux on CD, and unlimited user licences for all services listed above.

Hardware will be provided for your use at the course venue but you are encouraged to bring along your own server hardware (Intel Pentium) so that you can return to your school with a working system.

Optionally (with advance notice), SAAS can provide a fully pre-configured server which you may care to purchase and take back to your school as a "turn-key" solution - created by the sweat of your own brow (we won't tell anyone... honest!).

The course is designed to function in a supportive "workshop" style environment with no pressure to achieve certification or similar "academic" outcomes. A general enthusiasm, high stress tolerance, and basic familiarity with simple command-line DOS is a definite advantage!

Your lab-assistant\presenter was one of the first Registered Linux Consultants in Australia, and is Unix Certified (SunOS).

The presentation is focused on the specific needs of NSW schools.
